Ankita Bhandari murder case investigation

Following the life imprisonment sentencing of perpetrators in the Ankita Bhandari murder case, the Uttarakhand government detailed its investigative response. The state government, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, reported that suspects were jailed within 24 hours of the incident, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed, and a 500-page charge sheet was prepared. To assist the victim’s family, the state provided ₹25 lakh in financial aid and secured government employment for the victim’s father and brother.

In response to requests from the parents, the Chief Minister ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe. The parents of the 19-year-old victim subsequently met with senior CBI officials in New Delhi to share details and seek justice. This meeting followed a protest near India Gate, where the family demanded the revocation of a ‘VIP’ appointment implicated in the case pending the completion of the CBI investigation. CBI officials have assured the family that the probe will be conducted in a “thorough, impartial, and neutral manner.”
