By early September 2026, Antalya’s tourism sector continued to navigate a period of decline despite high volume. Data for the first eight months of the year shows approximately 10.76 million to 11.03 million foreign arrivals, representing a 5.8% decrease compared to the same period in 2025. This downturn accounts for a loss of roughly 664,530 tourists. Russia remains the primary source market with approximately 2.67 million visitors, accounting for about 26% of the total. Germany follows as the second largest market with 2.08 million visitors, marking a 5.5% decline. Together, these two markets constitute nearly 46% of the region’s foreign guests. Other notable markets include the United Kingdom and Poland. The decline is attributed to several interconnected factors. This transition aims to prepare for major international events, including leverage sectors beyond traditional sun-and-sea tourism, such as congress, sports, golf, health, gastronomy, and culture. Kaan Kasif Kavaloglu, president of the Mediterranean Touristic Hoteliers and Investors’ Association (AKTOB), noted these events are expected to increase hotel occupancy rates and showcase Türkiye’s commitment to sustainable tourism initiatives.
