APOEL, a Cypriot football club, has been conducting pre-season friendly matches to prepare for the upcoming championship phase. On August 15, APOEL secured a 3-1 victory against Anorthosis Famagusta at the ‘Freedom Antonis Papadopoulos’ stadium. The goals were scored by Sastre and Rosa via a direct corner, alongside an own goal by Karamanolis. Following this, the team played a 3-3 draw against Olympiacos. Coach Nikos Papadopoulos stated that the Olympiacos match was intended to ensure all players received at least 45 minutes of playing time to build fitness, specifically noting the need to protect players like Mancini, who is recovering from a serious injury. While acknowledging high-quality play in the first half of the draw, Papadopoulos observed a lack of energy and offensive drive. He emphasized that the team is focusing on physical readiness and mental preparation, noting that starting positions will be awarded based on merit demonstrated during training. As the club prepares for an upcoming fixture against Anorthosis, APOEL spokesperson Nektarios Petevinos noted the importance of maintaining concentration. He confirmed that all players are registered and available, though some are still regaining match rhythm. Petevinos also addressed the departure of Mr. Zivanari, describing it as a personal choice, and welcomed Mr. Schiza to his role. Preparation for the upcoming derby against APOEL has intensified for Anorthosis Famagusta. Following losses against AEL and Apollon, Anorthosis aims to secure its first victory of the season.
