Aptos tokenomics and supply adjustments
Overview
Following the conclusion of a four-year insider vesting schedule, Aptos implemented a significant overhaul of its tokenomics. Monthly APT issuance decreased by approximately 60%, dropping from 11.31 million to roughly 4.54 million tokens. Governance changes also included a tenfold increase in gas fees—all of which are burned—a reduction in annual staking rewards from 5.19% to 2.6%, and the establishment of a new hard cap of 2.1 billion APT.
While these measures have accelerated the token burn rate, reaching a total of approximately 1.9 million APT burned since mainnet launch, the token has not yet become deflationary. Monthly staking emissions of about 1.5 million APT continue to outpace the monthly burn of roughly 174,000 APT, resulting in a net monthly supply increase of approximately 1.4 million APT.
