Attiah, who had been with the publication for 11 years and helped establish its Global Opinions section, challenged the dismissal through a process supported by the Washington-Baltimore News Guild and the Democracy Defenders Fund. Attiah described the decision as a victory for freedom of expression, stating her work is focused on “serving readers,” “representing communities,” and “serving democracy.”
