Recent archaeological excavations in the Czech Republic have yielded significant prehistoric finds during infrastructure modernization projects.

In Moravia, near Kojetín, archaeologists monitoring the Brno–Přerov railway modernization discovered a Bronze Age deposit dating back over three thousand years. The assemblage, which includes bronze tools, sickles, and ingots, appears to be a ritual deposition rather than a stockpile, as several items were deliberately damaged before burial. Researchers have identified the find as belonging to the ‘culture of burial fields.’

In the Bohemia region, excavations for the D35 motorway near Hradec Králové have revealed a massive Celtic settlement from the La Tène period. Spanning approximately 25 hectares, the site likely served as a commercial, artisanal, and production hub along ancient trade routes. The settlement lacks fortified structures or defensive walls, and researchers have identified traces of a sanctuary on-site. Excavations have produced an immense volume of material, including approximately 22,000 bags of artifacts such as gold and silver coins, jewelry, amber, luxury ceramics, and molds for minting money.

Additionally, near a future Břeclav bypass, archaeologists unearthed a two-meter-deep Celtic well dating to between the 2nd and 3rd centuries BCE. The well features a well-preserved wooden lining maintained by an anaerobic environment. Experts intend to utilize 3D scanning and dendrochronology to analyze the timber and determine the specific year of its harvest.
