The restyling of the Arechi Stadium and the Volpe field area in Salerno is facing significant administrative and financial delays. While a service conference has approved the executive project for a temporary stadium, the release of approximately 139 to 140 million euros from the Campania Region remains stalled. The funding source has become a point of contention. Originally intended to come from ERDF (FESR) funds, the project was shifted to Cohesion and Development Funds (FSC) following European Union objections regarding the use of ERDF funds for stadium projects rather than seismic remediation. Regional Councilor Roberto Celano has formally requested clarification from the Campania Region regarding the availability of these funds and whether other projects were restructured to secure them. Current bureaucratic hurdles include the need to verify compatibility with State aid regulations and the official certification of the economic-financial plan. Mila Ingegneria has been assigned to manage these requirements at a cost of 125,000 euros. In a recent development, former President of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca addressed the controversies, stating that funding for the projects is secured. De Luca announced that the bidding process is complete and construction is underway. He noted that the next step requires the Campania Region’s head of major events to draft documentation for the European Union to certify that the projects do not constitute illegal State aid.
