Argentina educational voucher policy modification

The Argentine government has implemented changes to the Educational Vouchers program to protect students from losing financial assistance due to unpaid private school tuition.

Under previous regulations, families owing two monthly installments faced a suspension of benefits, while owing three installments resulted in permanent cancellation. Through Resolution 5055/2026, the Secretariat of Education has suspended these penalties for the 2026 school year. This measure allows beneficiaries to continue receiving assistance regardless of outstanding debts to private institutions. The decision follows reports from the Association of Private Teaching Institutes of Argentina (AIEPA) showing that tuition arrears rose to approximately 11%, up from 7% the previous year. Officials stated the suspension aims to ensure the “continuity of students’ educational trajectories” during the current school cycle amidst economic difficulties.

The program is intended for families with children under 18 attending private schools that receive at least 75% state funding, provided family income does not exceed seven minimum wages. Regional representatives, such as those in Mendoza, have noted that local governments lack the authority to modify these national conditions.

As of late August 2026, beneficiaries are awaiting the official payment schedule for the July period. While the Ministry of Human Capital has not released a specific date, historical patterns suggest payments through ANSES may begin during the third week of August. The program provides coverage of up to 50% of monthly tuition fees, with individual amounts typically around $20,000 depending on the tuition reported by the institution. To qualify, families must be Argentine nationals or foreigners with at least two years of legal residency.
