Argentina infrastructure upgrades 2026

Entities: Telecom · Future tunnel project · Villegas Construcciones · Gabriel Sánchez Zinny · Subterráneos de Buenos Aires

Overview

In late July 2026 the Argentine government continued a broad push to modernise urban and provincial infrastructure. The Buenos Aires city administration reported that its aerial cable replacement programme, covering more than a thousand blocks, was three‑quarters complete, while overall project progress stood at just over half.

On 31 July the city detailed the plan: 1,178 blocks and 744 poles are being upgraded, with aerial line work now 75.08 % finished and total project progress at 53.1 %. The effort is coordinated by city cabinet chief Gabriel Sánchez Zinny, the Ministry of Public Space and telecom operators Telecom, Telecentro and Telefónica.

In Chubut, the provincial road authority opened bids to pave the Barrio Docente area of Gaiman under the multi‑billion‑peso “Plan Galina”. The 1.984 billion‑peso contract attracted two offers—L.A.L.S.A. Construcciones at 1.779 billion and Villegas Construcciones at 1.866 billion—aiming to complete the work in six months.

Authorities also announced temporary disruptions linked to the upgrade drive. In Cipolletti a street was closed for a sewer‑collector replacement, and in Buenos Aires the historic General Urquiza subway station on Line E was shut for a three‑month renovation to improve platforms, lighting, accessibility and waterproofing. These actions illustrate the ongoing, coordinated effort to upgrade utilities and transport networks across the country, even as short‑term closures affect commuters.
