Argentina PAMI fraud investigation
Overview
In late July 2026, Argentine deputy Jorge "Koky" Araujo submitted a request to the Chamber of Deputies' Health Committee to create a sub‑commission probing alleged irregularities in the provincial branch of PAMI, the public health insurer for retirees, in Tierra del Fuego. He presented documentation of billing for services that were never performed – including fertility tests for octogenarians and studies requiring non‑existent equipment – and alleged a diversion of roughly 1.5 billion pesos.
A few days later, Araujo confirmed that a formal complaint had been filed with the PAMI Fiscal Investigation Unit and that he had introduced a bill to establish a parliamentary commission, now referred to the Health Public and Social Action committees. The same irregularities were reiterated, and a port worker, Gastón Castillo, linked the case to alleged mismanagement at the Ushuaia port, accusing former PAMI official Fernando Polizzi of influencing licensing and procurement. Castillo suggested a broader pattern of corruption affecting both the health insurer and the port authority.
