In late August 2026, Argentine provinces continued to launch large-scale development and modernization initiatives supported by international financing. In Río Negro, the Instituto de Desarrollo del Valle Inferior (Idevi) is finalizing bidding documents for a $14 million IDB-funded program to modernize regional water infrastructure. Approximately $12 million is dedicated to irrigation, including works on a 300-kilometer system, the electrification of gates, and upgrading a 50-year-old pumping station. The program also encompasses technical assistance and institutional strengthening. In Jujuy, Governor Carlos Sadir introduced the Resilient Infrastructure Program for Economic Development. Supported by a projected $130 million investment from the World Bank, the program aims to strengthen strategic sectors and create jobs through improvements to Provincial Route 1, mining-related infrastructure, and the establishment of a logistics and technology center at the Perico Industrial Park. These developments build upon previous efforts in Río Negro, such as the CAF-funded Territorial Development Program, which utilizes the SIGADE version 7 system to centralize public debt information and modernize the Real Estate Registry. Earlier initiatives in the province also included an $85 million IDB-backed package for rural electrification and fire prevention, as well as ongoing efforts to manage the transfer of National Routes 22 and 151 to provincial jurisdiction to address traffic issues related to Vaca Muerta. In early September 2026, the Neuquén provincial government, led by Governor Rolando Figueroa, announced a multi-year plan to expand gas access to local households using resources from the Vaca Muerta formation. The program aims to install over 500 kilometers of new pipelines over the next six years. To reach areas where main pipelines are not yet accessible, the province will implement an “energy ladder” strategy, utilizing LPG cylinders and distribution plants in smaller settlements before progressing toward trunk natural gas networks.
