In late July 2026, Marcos Pereda, the vice‑president of the Sociedad Rural Argentina (SRA), announced the opposition slate “Renovación con Unidad” and named producers Carlos Romero Feris and José García Enciso as candidates. The list aimed to prevent incumbent president Nicolás Pino from securing a fourth term, calling for a federal, generational renewal and criticizing an extended electoral timetable that they said favoured the incumbent. By early August, Pereda reiterated the need for urgent leadership renewal ahead of the September SRA elections. He highlighted shortcomings in the SRA’s genealogical records, demanded modernisation, broader federal representation of producers, lower agricultural taxes, and improvements to national logistics. Romero Feris echoed these points, stressing the concentration of power in Buenos Aires, the burden of taxes, and the need for better infrastructure to cope with droughts and floods. On August 13, mid-August, Pereda formally announced his candidacy for SRA President under the “Renovación con Unidad” ticket, running alongside Santos Zuberbuhler as Vice President. Pereda challenged the leadership of Nicolás Pino, Pino’s leadership, arguing that seeking a fourth or fifth term would violate organizational statutes mandating a maximum of three consecutive terms.
