In late July 2026, Marcos Pereda, the vice‑president of the Sociedad Rural Argentina (SRA), announced the opposition slate “Renovación con Unidad” and named producers Carlos Romero Feris and José García Enciso as candidates. He stated that “it is not good for an institution to be under the same leadership for 10 years” and characterized the pursuit of indefinite power as “nefarious for institutions.” On August 29, candidate José Enrique García Enciso called for strict observance of statutes, referencing a 2020 agreement that allegedly stipulated Pino would transfer leadership to Pereda in September 2026.

On September 9, 2026, during the 162nd Ordinary General Assembly, Nicolás Pino was re-elected as president for the 2026–2028 term. The vote was described as one of the most contested in the institution's 160-year history. While reports on the exact margin varied, one count indicated Pino received 64.6% of the votes (1,441 votes) against Pereda's 26.6% (592 votes). Carlos Odriozola will continue as vice president. For his new term, Pino prioritized increasing competitiveness, reducing tax pressure, and advocating for a permanent legal framework of “zero retentions” regarding export taxes.
