Argentine judicial proceedings on state terrorism

Overview

A federal judge in Argentina has expanded the scope of investigations into victims of state terrorism. Magistrate Sergio Ramos, presiding over Federal Criminal and Correctional Court No. 2, granted a collective habeas corpus petition from the group SonCinCuenta.

While previous judicial investigations were limited to the period of the military dictatorship between 1976 and 1983, the new resolution mandates that authorities seek the whereabouts of all individuals kidnapped during the context of illegal repression starting from 1973. This expansion includes the period leading up to the military takeover and continues through the beginning of the democratic transition.
