Livestock markets across Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay continue to demonstrate significant activity through breed-specific auctions and seasonal exhibitions. In Argentina, the Angus Spring Week at the Cañuelas Angus Convention Center has highlighted shifting market dynamics. Juan Martin Ojea Rullan, Director of Angus, noted that the global value of beef has increased as animal protein is increasingly valued worldwide. He also observed a significant shift in breed color preferences; while black Angus cattle historically dominated, red varieties have seen a substantial rise in value and prevalence over the last two decades, moving from a 90/10 split to approximately 60/40. Recent Argentine activities include the 46th Rural Exhibition in Choele Choel, Río Negro, where Cabaña Don Juan was awarded Grand Champion Male (PP) in the Angus category, with Cabaña Los Murmullos as the Reserve Grand Champion Male (PP) and Cerro Chenque SRL as Grand Champion Female (PP). Additionally, Looking ahead to October 13, Banco Nación, Rosgan, and Expoagro are organizing a large-scale major anniversary livestock auction in Rosario involving Rosgan, Rosario. This event commemorates the 135th anniversary of Banco Nación, Nación and Expoagro the 18th anniversary of Rosgan’s televised auctions. The auction is set expected to feature approximately 15,000 head of cattle. To support the event, Banco Nación is offering special financing incentives, including a three-percentage-point reduction on interest rates, contingent upon participating consignees contributing an additional percentage point. Rosgan President Raúl Milano noted that despite varying volumes, there is “strong demand it not being the peak volume period, the market remains strong due to good genetics and significant high international interest,” demand, particularly following the opening of the Japanese market. To support these sales, Banco Nación is offering a three-percentage-point discount on financing rates. Regional activity remains steady in neighboring countries. In Paraguay, the sector is seeing a recovery in market firmness. In Uruguay, the Los Tapiales ranch in Río Negro is preparing its 8th annual auction, featuring pedigree and SA bulls and heifers. High market expectations persist, with the ranch administrator reporting that most bulls have already received pre-offers.
