Argentine nanosatellite development and launches

Overview

Argentina is advancing its domestic space capabilities through the development and upcoming launch of nanosatellites via SpaceX Falcon 9 rockets.

In late September 2026, the Argentine Army announced plans for the Evaluador Tecnológico NanoSat (ETNS), a CubeSat-type platform developed with the Institute of Scientific and Technical Defense Research (CITEDEF). Scheduled for launch in late October 2026, the ETNS mission serves as a technological demonstrator to test navigation, communications, and power supply systems in space.

Concurrently, the Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP) prepared to launch USAT-1, the country’s first university nanosatellite, on October 1. Developed by the Aerospace Technology Center (CTA) and the Electronic Navigation and Telecommunications Systems group (SENyT), the 3 kg CubeSat is designed to perform Earth observations using GNSS signals to measure atmospheric and soil characteristics. The project highlights cost-effective aerospace engineering, with an estimated material and scholarship investment of approximately 70,000 USD.
