Armed Home Robberies in Brazil

Late July 2026 saw two separate armed home invasions in the southeastern Brazilian cities of Santo André (São Paulo) and Blumenau (Santa Catarina). In Santo André, a retired man and his grandson were held hostage for about 90 minutes while thieves stole cash and valuables. In Blumenau, a woman was locked in her bathroom while masked assailants robbed her home; police recovered some stolen items but made no arrests.

A few days later, on July 31 and August 1, an elderly businessman in Bento Gonçalves (Rio Grande do Sul) was targeted in two attacks within 24 hours. The first assault ended with police locating the getaway vehicle, arresting three suspects and seizing weapons and other items. The second attack, likely linked to the first, resulted in the victim’s injuries but no theft. Authorities continued investigations, indicating a broader pattern of armed robberies across multiple Brazilian regions.
