Arrest and transfer of Angélica Saraiva de Sá

Overview

Angélica Saraiva de Sá, a leader of the Comando Vermelho criminal faction in northern Mato Grosso known as ‘Angeliquinha’, was arrested in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, following a coordinated operation between Bolivian authorities and the Mato Grosso Civil Police. A fugitive since escaping the Ana Maria do Couto May Female Penitentiary in Cuiabá in August 2025, Sá reportedly used false identification and underwent more than five aesthetic procedures to alter her facial features to evade capture.

Sá faces total sentences exceeding 260 years for crimes including drug trafficking, extortion, murder, and criminal organization. This includes a March 2025 sentence of 99 years and 11 months for the 2022 murders of four workers in Nova Monte Verde. Investigations such as ‘Operation Showdown’ have linked her network to suspicious financial movements and money laundering exceeding R$ 20 million.

Following her recapture, she was transferred from Mato Grosso do Sul to the Ana Maria do Couto May Female Penitentiary in Cuiabá. Due to her criminal involvement, the 5th Criminal Court of Sinop ordered her placement in a Special Disciplinary Regime (RDD) for an initial period of 180 days.
