Arson investigations in Berlin

Overview

Authorities in Berlin are investigating multiple suspected arson incidents. On August 28, a fire broke out on the fourth floor of a six-story refugee shelter in the Spandau district. The blaze caused smoke to spread through the building, resulting in four injuries from smoke inhalation, three of whom were hospitalized. Approximately 50 to 60 residents were displaced after the affected floor was declared uninhabitable.

On August 31, police opened another arson investigation following a basement fire at a residential building on Mariannenplatz in Kreuzberg. Firefighters responded to the scene on a Tuesday evening to extinguish the blaze, which caused smoke to spread through hallways and apartments. Residents in the building were able to remain in their homes during the emergency operation.
