Arson sentencing in Badajoz

Overview

Courts in Badajoz have issued several sentences following arson incidents in the region.

In one case, a 35-year-old man was sentenced to five years in prison for causing a brush fire near the Real Bridge in August 2025. The fire caused traffic closures and the destruction of a makeshift shelter. The court applied a sentence reduction due to the defendant’s 57% intellectual disability and ordered 3,000 euros in civil liability.

In a separate matter, two youths received eight-month prison sentences for starting a grass fire near the Hospital Universitario de Badajoz. Because the sentences were under two years and the individuals had no prior records, they will not serve time in a penitentiary. Additionally, an individual was sentenced to one year in prison for setting fire to containers on La Violeta Street.
