Art commemorations in Balassagyarmat

Overview

Cultural commemorations in Balassagyarmat have focused on significant Hungarian artistic figures. Initially, the Jánossy Gallery hosted the ‘Jánossy 100 – The Heritage’ exhibition to mark the centenary of painter Ferenc Jánossy, showcasing works ranging from surrealist compositions to figurative pieces. This period also included a Budapest event featuring a painting of poet György Faludy.

Subsequently, the 40th meeting of the Friends of Balassagyarmat incorporated the centennial commemoration of Jánossy alongside other cultural programs. This gathering also featured an exhibition at the Madách Imre City Library gallery dedicated to the graphic works and film posters of the late artist Péter Merczel.
