Arthur Ashe Stadium modernization project
Overview
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is managing an $800 million modernization project for Arthur Ashe Stadium at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The renovation aims to upgrade the fan experience and modernize the venue through several key developments.
Architectural updates include a new grand entrance designed in collaboration with Daniel Libeskind and a state-of-the-art Player Performance Center on the stadium’s west side. HOK+ROSSETTI Architects is overseeing the project.
As part of a multi-phase modernization plan, the 2026 tournament saw the completion of two new dedicated luxury suite levels and an expanded courtside bowl. These spaces have allowed corporate partners, such as Emirates and Grey Goose, to debut high-end hospitality experiences.
In addition to physical infrastructure, the U.S. Open has shifted toward a high-energy atmosphere. This includes policies like the ‘fan free movement’ policy introduced in 2024, which allows spectators more freedom to move throughout the venue to prioritize enjoyment.
