Aruba educational policy and infrastructure

At the start of the 2026-2027 school year in Aruba, political leaders raised criticisms regarding educational infrastructure and policy. MEP lawmaker Dangui Oduber pointed to neglected facilities, such as disrepair in playgrounds and gyms, and noted that promised solar panel installations had not been implemented despite a government surplus. Additionally, PPA leader Eduard Pieters criticized a lack of policy coherence, arguing that spending significant funds on Dutch-language mathematics materials conflicted with the nation’s move toward a multilingual teaching model.

Following these criticisms, reports emerged of successful educational milestones and new facilities. Colegio Santa Filomena in San Nicolas inaugurated a new playground supported by Wings of Hope and ABO Projects. Furthermore, the “Choices Matter, so do you?” project, a collaboration involving the University of Aruba, the Openbaar Ministerie Aruba, and the Dutch organization Diversion, completed its first year. The initiative utilized peer educators to conduct 192 workshops across nine secondary schools, focusing on topics such as justice, safety, and social media responsibility.
