Asahi Linux support for Apple M3 chips

The Asahi Linux project has progressed toward providing native Linux support for Apple M3 series chips, including M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max models. Initial developments involved merging core driver code into the Linux 7.2 kernel cycle, which eliminated the need for manual third-party patches for CPU, memory scheduling, and graphics pipeline support. Technical achievements included the reverse engineering of the ACE3 controller and the SPMI bus to enable high-speed data transfer via USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt, as well as hardware-level mapping for webcams and audio technology.

Following these developments, official support for the M3 generation was announced. While this brings the M3 series close to the support levels of M1 and M2 hardware, certain limitations remain. The Mac Studio M3 Ultra is currently unsupported, and GPU acceleration is not yet efficient enough for heavy 3D workloads. Additionally, the absence of Display Controller Port (DCP) support means sleep mode is unavailable and HDMI ports on M3 MacBook models do not function. Developers continue to work on audio drivers and power management, with further integration expected in future kernel versions.
