Assam flood relief by Bollywood

Overview

In late July 2026, severe monsoon rains caused extensive flooding in Assam, India, killing more than 60 people and displacing hundreds of thousands. Bollywood actors Alia Bhatt and Salman Khan mobilised public support through social media and the Being Human Foundation. Their first phase delivered ready‑to‑eat food packets, essential supplies, medicines, safe drinking water, sanitary pads and mosquito repellent, and pledged assistance for rebuilding schools and hospitals.

By early August, the effort shifted toward longer‑term rehabilitation. Salman Khan, partnering with the NGO Global Sikhs and local fan clubs, launched a drive to construct 500 semi‑permanent, flood‑resilient houses for displaced families. The project, targeting eight to ten homes per day, had completed 220 houses in the hardest‑hit village of Nepali Khuti, with each unit costing roughly Rs 35,000‑40,000. The initiative marks a transition from immediate relief to sustainable shelter for flood victims.
