On September 19, 2026, Susy Ysabel Aponte Polo, a journalist and regional government candidate for the Socios por Áncash movement, was assassinated during a campaign event at a market in Caraz, Peru. Known as ‘China Polo’, she was reportedly shot from behind, an attack that also wounded between two and five people, including three minors. Aponte Polo had previously reported receiving death threats from individuals in ~~penitentiaries and~~ penitentiaries.
