Assault at Santa Chiara Hospital psychiatric ward

On September 23, 2026, a psychiatric patient caused significant damage and issued threats at the Santa Chiara Hospital in Pisa, Italy. The individual, who was being transferred from the Volterra REMS (Residenza per l’esecuzione delle misure di sicurezza), reportedly destroyed furniture and threatened medical staff and other patients, prompting the urgent transfer of other patients to a different ward.

The assailant was identified by Diego Petrucci, Vice President of the Tuscan Regional Council, as Mourad Talbi, an individual previously acquitted of a 2022 homicide due to mental incapacity.
