Athenian democracy documentary production
Overview
A documentary series titled ‘The Cradle of Democracy’, directed by Florence Tran, explores the historical and archaeological origins of the Athenian democratic system from 2,500 years ago.
The production examines how the political system emerged through aristocratic conflicts and reforms, utilizing animations and expert testimonies to reconstruct historical moments in the Agora. Key elements of the series include investigations into excavations at the Acropolis and the reconstruction of a ‘kleroterion’, an ancient lottery machine used to distribute power and limit corruption.
As a co-production involving YUZU Productions, Anemon Productions, MagentaTV, France Télévisions, and NOVA/GBH, the two-part international series is scheduled to premiere on Magenta History on October 18.
