Athletic events in Culiacán and Saltillo
Overview
Athletic events have been organized in various Mexican cities. In September, announcements were made for the ‘Te quiero Culiacán 2026’ race in Sinaloa, featuring multiple distances, and the 15th ‘Chuy Flores 2026’ race in Saltillo, which includes inclusive categories for visually impaired runners and wheelchair users.
By October, preparations for the Maratón Saltillo La Moderna 2026 were finalized. The event involves a 42.195-kilometer course starting and ending at Parque Centro on Bulevar Galerías. To manage the marathon, the Comisaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana announced significant road closures and a large-scale security and traffic deployment involving municipal police, transit officers, police academy cadets, and volunteers covering more than 400 points.
For the race scheduled for Sunday, October 11, authorities issued warnings that street closures would begin at 4:50 a.m. The route passes through several major thoroughfares, including Bulevar Venustiano Carranza, Bulevar Pedro Figueroa, Bulevar Eulalio Gutiérrez Treviño, Bulevar José María Rodríguez, and Periférico Luis Echeverría, passing near the Tecnológico de Monterrey and the Museo del Desierto. Commissioner Miguel Ángel Garza Félix stated that roads would reopen progressively as the final runners pass.
Additionally, the municipal Institute of Sustainable Urban Mobility (IMMUS) announced that the free transport service, ‘Aquí Vamos Gratis’, would delay its start until 1:00 p.m. to avoid conflicts with the marathon routes.
