ATP Shanghai Masters tournament progress

Overview

American tennis player Ben Shelton entered the Shanghai Masters with the goal of securing a spot in the ATP Finals in Turin. Following a successful US Open run, Shelton aimed to improve his standing in the ATP Live Race To Turin and surpass his career high of 39 tour-level wins.

During the tournament, Shelton advanced to the third round after defeating Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 7-6(8-6) on his 24th birthday. Other notable developments included top seed Alexander Zverev advancing to the third round after a victory over Yibing Wu, and Alex de Minaur receiving a walkover into the third round.

As the tournament progressed, Alexander Zverev secured a second-round victory over Chinese wildcard Yibing Wu with a score of 6-4, 7-6(4). Following the match, Wu criticized Zverev’s conduct, alleging the German used tactics such as “complaining about lighting and touching the net to disrupt his rhythm.”

Stefanos Tsitsipas also advanced by defeating Italy’s Luciano Darderi 6-3, 6-4, which eliminated the Italian contingent from the singles tournament. Darderi noted the fast playing conditions during his post-match press conference. Other results included Taylor Fritz defeating Matteo Arnaldi.
