Attacks on Greek-owned shipping in Strait of Hormuz

Overview

A series of projectile attacks targeting Greek-owned bulk carriers has occurred in the Strait of Hormuz.

On August 3, 2026, the Liberia-flagged Minoan Pioneer was struck by an unidentified projectile, possibly a drone, approximately 20 nautical miles northeast of Al Khasab, Oman. The strike resulted in an engine-room blackout and a fire, forcing the crew to abandon the vessel. One crew member, the third engineer, was reported missing.

On August 17, 2026, the Minoan Dignity was also struck by a projectile of unknown origin while exiting the strait. This attack caused damage to the vessel’s engine room and resulted in the death of the ship’s chief engineer. The Oman Coast Guard assisted the remaining crew members following the incident.
