Audi to invest $4 billion in first U.S. manufacturing plant in Georgia

Audi has announced plans to invest approximately $4 billion to build its first manufacturing facility in the United States. Located at the Middle Georgia Megasite in Peach County, near Macon, the plant will focus on producing premium electric SUVs, specifically targeting models such as the Q7, Q8, and Q9.

The project is expected to create roughly 4,500 new jobs. According to company disclosures and state officials, site grading is anticipated to begin in 2027, with construction following in 2028. The facility aims for a full production capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year, with production expected to reach this level around 2031.

The announcement, made during a campaign rally by President Donald Trump and attended by Audi CEO Gernot Döllner, highlights a strategic shift to localize production for the North American market. This move is seen as a response to trade pressures and tariffs, which reportedly cost the company 1.2 billion euros in 2025. By establishing a regional manufacturing base, Audi aims to enhance its competitiveness against domestic manufacturers and mitigate risks associated with transatlantic supply chains and currency fluctuations.
