Expanding on these efforts, the government introduced the National Bioenergy Feedstock Strategy. This blueprint aims to establish a domestic bioenergy feedstock industry valued at up to $15 billion annually, utilizing canola, tallow, crop residues, and forestry waste. By processing feedstock onshore into renewable diesel and SAF, the government intends to support hard-to-electrify sectors such as heavy freight, mining, and shipping. A mature LCLF industry could eventually meet more than 40% of Australia’s projected liquid fuel demand, addressing the fact that over 90% of the nation's current liquid fuel is imported or derived from imported crude. In a practical application, the Australian Defence Force (ADF) has begun rolling out LCLF blends across its national network, with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) among the early adopters.
