Australian NBL1 basketball season developments

The 2026 NBL1 basketball season progressed from the buildup to the finals through to the conclusion of the East conference championships.

During the lead-up to the semi-finals, discussions centered on the performance of teams in both the Central and East conferences. In the Central conference, the South Adelaide Panthers showed surprising strength, while the East conference saw the Sutherland Sharks enter the finals with a nine-game winning streak.

The NBL1 East season concluded with Bankstown and Norths securing championship titles. In the women’s division, the Bankstown Bruins won their first championship by defeating the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles 90-85, with Shyla Heal named Grand Final MVP. Heal scored 26 points, while Tahlia Tupaea contributed a perfect 19-for-19 from the free-throw line.

In the men’s division, the Norths Bears claimed their fourth title, the first since 2017, by defeating the Sutherland Sharks 76-64 at Guzman y Gomez Stadium. Fabijan Krslovic was named Grand Final MVP, supported by Wani Swaka Lo Buluk, who scored 18 points.
