Autonomous public transport development in Île-de-France
Overview
Île-de-France Mobilités announced a strategic program to launch the region’s first autonomous public transport service, aiming to deploy approximately 100 autonomous vehicles by 2030. Valérie Pécresse, president of the organization, stated the goal is to become a “global reference for autonomous collective transport to reduce traffic congestion.” The initiative focuses on mass-produced minibuses and microbuses rather than individual robotaxis.
Following this announcement, experimental projects have begun testing autonomous technology across the region. In Le Plessis-Trévise, RATP launched two electric autonomous shuttles on a 4.7 km loop to evaluate safety and operational functionality. Additionally, the MOB-AUTO² project, supported by the France 2030 investment program, is testing electric shuttles on a 28 km section of the A10 motorway between Longvilliers and Massy-Palaiseau, marking a first for collective transport on an open highway.
