Autostrade per l’Italia has initiated a reorganization of its engineering and construction pillars, Amplia Infrastructures and Tecne, to facilitate a motorway network regeneration plan. This restructuring involves merging Tecne’s engineering design branch into Amplia, adding 500 technicians and engineers to Amplia’s workforce while leaving Tecne with approximately 500 resources to manage worksite direction and safety. Following this reorganization, Autostrade per l’Italia and Webuild signed an €803 million contract for the construction of ‘Lotto B’ of the Genoa sub-port tunnel. Designed by Tecne, the 4.2-kilometer project aims to improve urban mobility and port competitiveness in Genoa by connecting the city’s western and eastern sectors and creating new green space. The signing of this contract, attended by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Edoardo Rixi, follows a contract award in July. The project will feature over 3 kilometers of separate tunnels for each direction of travel and is expected to return 6 hectares of green space to the city via the new Lanterna Park. Work on ‘Lotto A’, which includes the New Railway Tunnel and new port roads, is already progressing toward completion. In the broader context of the Italian construction sector, Mauro Franzolini, general secretary of FenealUil, has warned of a complex transformation as extraordinary funding from the EU's Recovery and Resilience Facility (PNRR) concludes. Franzolini also highlighted a growing housing emergency in metropolitan areas, noting that current government plans lack sufficient economic resources to address rising rent and property prices.
