Autumn 2026 astronomical events

Overview

The autumn of 2026 features several notable celestial events. In September, Neptune reaches opposition, offering an optimal window for viewing the planet at its brightest with a telescope.

October is characterized by significant meteor activity. The Draconid meteor shower, caused by debris from comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner, is active from October 6 to 10, with peak activity expected on October 8 and 9. Following this, the Orionid meteor shower, produced by particles from Halley’s Comet, is expected to peak around October 21 and 22.

Later in the season, the Beaver supermoon is expected to peak on November 24. Mid-November will also feature a planetary parade including Jupiter and Venus, as well as Mercury and Mars appearing before sunrise.
