At IFA 2026, FRITZ! (formerly AVM) celebrated its 40th anniversary by unveiling a major hardware refresh centered on Wi-Fi 7 technology and a new design language. The flagship DSL/Fiber 7-90 router marks a departure from traditional curved aesthetics, featuring a minimalist, angular white housing designed for vertical orientation. This model utilizes a dual-modem system compatible with both GPON and AON standards, offering tri-band speeds up to 12.2 Gbit/s. The hardware includes eleven antennas positioned in the upper section to improve transmission performance, with all connections located on the underside to facilitate integrated cable management. This launch introduces a significant shift in naming conventions. Under the new scheme, model names will lead with the connection type—such as Fiber, DSL, Cable, Mobile, or WAN—followed by a numerical combination indicating the Wi-Fi generation and series. This logic is intended to help consumers quickly identify the appropriate device for their specific connection needs. The expanded lineup includes the FRITZ!Box 5630 XGS, a compact 10 Gbit/s XGS-PON fiber router, and the FRITZ!Box 6835 5G. Recent performance evaluations have identified the FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro as a top performer for fiber optic connections, noted for its Wi-Fi 7 support and integrated DSL modem to facilitate transitions from DSL to fiber. The FRITZ!Box 5530 Fiber has also been highlighted as a budget-friendly option. Software advancements focus on FRITZ!OS 8.50, targeted for October, and security features in FRITZ!OS 8.40.
