Aydan Marko Papac completes 827km Croatian coastal run

Overview

Australian-Croatian ultra-runner Aydan Marko Papac completed an 827-kilometer run along the Croatian coastline, traveling from the Savudrija Lighthouse to Punta Oštro on the Prevlaka peninsula. The mission, which began on August 24, 2026, aimed to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest crossing of Croatia by running and to raise awareness for Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare neurodegenerative condition that claimed the life of Papac’s grandfather, Jandra Bilić.

Papac completed the trek in 10 days, 3 hours, and 55 minutes, falling just under four hours short of the existing Guinness World Record. To maintain the necessary pace of over 80 kilometers per day, Papac endured extreme physical challenges, including severe dehydration and sodium loss. These conditions necessitated medical intervention and hospitalization near Zadar due to exhaustion and heat-related health concerns.

The project received support from the Central State Office for Croats Living Abroad and the Croatian Emigrants Institute. During the final segments near Dubrovnik, Papac was joined by local runners and triathletes for various portions of the route.
