Nigerian Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr announced that released her third studio album, titled ‘Starr Girl’, is scheduled for release ‘Starrgirl’, on August 14, 2026. 2026, through Mavin Records and Republic Records. During the lead-up to the release, Starr disclosed that she underwent major surgery. While she noted that the recovery process was “more complicated than anticipated,” she returned to rehearsals and public appearances within a week to prepare for the album launch. She described the upcoming work as a bridge between her past and present, incorporating new musical influences such as electronic pulses. On August 14, Starr released the 16-track album, ‘Starrgirl’, through Mavin Records and Republic Records. The project features collaborations with artists including such as Zayn, Wizkid, Rema, and Danny Ocean. Ocean, and Leon Thomas. Following its release, the album reached number one on the Apple Music Nigeria Top Albums chart within four hours and debuted at number ten on the Apple Music South Africa chart. Prior to the launch, Starr surpassed 3.9 billion cumulative streams on Spotify, becoming the second African female artist to reach that milestone. To celebrate the release in Lagos, Nigeria, a purple firework display was held at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge. On August 16, Starr topped Billboard’s weekly new music poll, securing over 87% of the fan vote and outperforming releases from artists including Phoebe Bridgers, Troye Sivan, and KATSEYE. Regarding the album’s creative process, Starr noted that her time in New York played a significant role, describing the music as an exploration of being ‘complete’ and an opportunity to experience life beyond professional pressures. This follows her recent recovery from major surgery, which she previously described as “more complicated than anticipated.”
