AZ Alkmaar European competition results

Overview

AZ Alkmaar has secured victories in two different UEFA competitions. In the Europa League, the club achieved a 4-0 win against Ararat-Armenia. Following a domestic draw, trainer Leeroy Echteld utilized a squad rotation strategy, referred to by Dutch media as ‘Team Europa’, which resulted in a standout performance by Weslley Patati.

In the UEFA Youth League, AZ Alkmaar won the first leg of their qualifying round against the Turkish side Göztepe with a 3-1 score. The match, held at the AFAS Trainingscomplex, marked Göztepe’s first appearance in European competition in 56 years. After trailing early due to a penalty converted by Yusuf Ali Şirin in the 25th minute, the team responded with a free kick from Chavarello Hellings before halftime. Hellings added a second goal from a penalty in the 78th minute, and seventeen-year-old Jahmael Ampofo sealed the win with a goal in the 90th minute. The tie will conclude in a second leg in Izmir, Turkey, with the winner advancing to face either Rangers FC or Dynamo Kiev in the final qualifying round.
