BAE Systems counter-drone technology development
Overview
BAE Systems has demonstrated new technologies designed to defend against drone attacks. At the AUSA 2026 exhibition, the company unveiled a High Power Microwave (HPM) system, a directed-energy weapon intended to disrupt or destroy drone electronics. The modular HPM system is designed for various applications, including fixed-site installations, towed systems, combat vehicles, and maritime platforms, utilizing approximately 99% commercial off-the-shelf components.
Following this, military experiments conducted at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida demonstrated a different approach to drone defense. A modified T-150 Uncrewed Air System (UAS) successfully intercepted multiple one-way attack drones using APKWS laser-guided rockets. This configuration allowed the uncrewed platform to engage several targets in succession without landing or reloading.
