Law‑enforcement actions across the Balkans intensified through mid-August 2026, targeting cannabis production and cocaine trafficking. Following earlier seizures in Crete, Mani, and Fthiotida, operations expanded into northern and island regions. In late July, a high‑speed chase in the Drama region led to the arrest of three suspects attempting to flee police. On 1 August, Greek authorities in Mytilene detained a Turkish shipowner linked to a multi‑national network involved in trafficking more than two tonnes of cocaine. In Western Macedonia, police arrested 13 people in late July and early August for cannabis possession across Kozani, Grevena, and Kastoria. Operations on Greek islands continued with the arrest of five individuals in Santorini following a dispute involving a knife wound, resulting in the seizure of cannabis and cocaine. In mid-August, enforcement expanded with a controlled delivery in Western Mani on 5 August, where a 27-year-old was arrested after receiving a package containing 475 grams of cannabis. On 3 August, a 59-year-old Albanian resident was detained in Rhodes after police intercepted a taxi containing approximately 1.2 kg of cocaine near Akanthia port. On 14 August, authorities in Thessaloniki dismantled an international organization by seizing 324 kg of cannabis hidden in a recycling shipment. The group allegedly trafficked narcotics from Albania to Turkey via Greece, with estimated illegal profits exceeding 700,000 euros. In Heraklion, an operation on 12 August led to the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of 1.8 kg of cocaine and thousands of sedative pills. In Chania, a 21-year-old was arrested after police intercepted drugs hidden in toy boxes, seizing 12.2 kg of cannabis and 459 grams of cocaine. On 21 August, police dismantled a structured drug syndicate on Mykonos, arresting nine gang members and a 22-year-old. In late August, enforcement continued with the arrest of two men in Mykonos following surveillance that revealed a parked car being used as a “stash house” for MDMA, pink cocaine, and cocaine.
