Balkan customs enforcement operations
Overview
Customs authorities in North Macedonia and Kosovo have conducted operations to intercept undeclared and untaxed goods.
In Skopje, North Macedonia, officials raided a market in the Chair municipality, seizing 135 kilograms of cut tobacco and 30 liters of alcohol. The operation, described by the Customs Administration as part of an effort to combat illegal trade following the suppression of an international organized crime group, resulted in criminal and misdemeanor charges for individuals involved in excise tax evasion.
In Kosovo, customs officials intercepted undeclared items at the Vërmicë and Han i Elezit border crossings. At Vërmicë, officers discovered clothing and shoes bearing protected trademarks valued at approximately 72,600 euros. At Han i Elezit, undeclared vehicle components worth roughly 27,000 euros were seized. Authorities in both regions have initiated administrative procedures regarding these seizures.
