Balkan regional economic and investment initiatives
Overview
Regional economic development efforts are being highlighted through various summits and expos across the Balkans. In Prishtina, Kosovo, Albania, and North Macedonia have planned a joint investment portfolio exceeding 20 billion EUR to be presented at the Balkan Summit 2026. This initiative targets approximately 110 infrastructure projects in the transport, energy, and digital sectors to create a unified regional market.
Organizers of the Balkan Summit 2026, scheduled for October 19-20 in Prishtina, aim to attract international capital by offering investors a single regional market with three entry points rather than three small, competing markets. The portfolio includes projects such as AI-ready data centers. While Bulgaria is currently outside this initial phase, organizers noted it could join in future stages.
In Bulgaria, the VII edition of the Sofia International Money Expo (SIM Expo 2026) is set for November 5, 2026, at the Sofia Balkan Palace. Organized by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the event will focus on the theme ‘Sofia – a regional financial hub’, exploring opportunities related to Bulgaria’s entry into the eurozone, fintech, digitalization, and the green transition.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the 100 EXPO International Fair in Sarajevo will feature a panel titled ‘Invest or Stagnate – Decisions That Made Us Great’. This event brings together business leaders from sectors such as energy, logistics, and finance to discuss investment timing, risk management, and technological growth.
