Balkan regional military training and cooperation
Overview
Military cooperation and training efforts among Balkan nations and their partners have been highlighted through recent personnel developments and tactical exercises.
In late September, Montenegro’s Chief of the General Staff, Brigadier General Miodrag Vuksanović, welcomed a new group of second lieutenants. These officers completed their training at various international academies in countries including North Macedonia, Austria, Greece, Italy, and Croatia. Vuksanović noted that the “diverse international experiences” and expertise gained at these institutions are vital assets for the development of Montenegro’s national armed forces.
By mid-October, regional training expanded through a multinational mountain warfare exercise near Udbina. Conducted by the ‘Marko Babić’ Leadership Development Center, the training included personnel from Croatia, Slovenia, Kosovo, Albania, North Macedonia, and Montenegro. Under Slovenian instruction, the cohort practiced tactical movement, mountaineering, and leadership skills across rugged terrain.
