Banco Nación credit expansion in Argentina
Overview
Banco Nación has expanded its credit offerings across different sectors of the Argentine economy. In late August 2026, the bank reported a significant consolidation in agricultural financing, with its agricultural loan portfolio reaching approximately $4.5 trillion. This represents a growth of over 55% since December 2025, making the sector the bank’s fastest-growing segment and accounting for nearly 30% of its total portfolio. Following this growth in agribusiness, the bank introduced new credit lines in September 2026 to stimulate the automotive market through the ‘+Autos con BNA’ program. On September 7, 2026, the bank detailed specific terms for the UVA-indexed credit line, which allows for financing up to 100% of a vehicle's value with a maximum of $100 million per person. This line covers new cars, pick-ups, and utility vehicles, as well as used vehicles up to 10 years old, and notably does not require a vehicle lien (“sin prenda”). Interest rates for UVA credits are set at UVA + 19% TNA for clients who receive salaries or pensions through the bank, and UVA + 25% TNA for others. To increase predictability, an annual premium of one percentage point is included, allowing for a potential installment cap linked to the Wage Variation Coefficient (CVS). Alternatively, the bank offers a traditional fixed-rate peso line with terms up to 72 months. Rates for this option are 36% TNA for account holders and 46% TNA for others. Amidst these launches, the bank has implemented measures to assist existing debtors, such as reducing annual interest rates for debt refinancing from 35% to 29%. The expansion occurs during a period of economic complexity; an Econviews report noted that rising credit delinquency is largely driven by long-term debtors whose “capacity to pay has been eroded by declining disposable income.”
