Bandai Namco Ace Combat Zero distribution issues
Overview
Bandai Namco initially addressed fan dissatisfaction regarding the availability of ‘Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War’. Developers explained that the title could not be sold as a standalone product because of expiring licensing agreements with aircraft manufacturers. Consequently, the game was only available as a pre-order bonus for ‘Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve’, which required players to install the full 140GB ‘Ace Combat 8’ client to access it.
Following user feedback concerning the large storage requirements and delivery methods, Bandai Namco released a standalone Steam port of the game. This new version requires only 3.2GB of storage. While the standalone version supports Steam Cloud and Achievements, licensing restrictions prevent the game from being sold individually; it remains exclusive to ‘Ace Combat 8’ pre-order customers.
