Bangalore hotel groups boycott Swiggy

In late July 2026, the Bangalore Hotels Association warned Swiggy that it had a 15‑day window to resolve a range of payment and deduction grievances, including unauthorised advertising charges, service fees on GST and opaque payout statements that left restaurants with less than half of the billed order value. The association, backed by the Karnataka State Hotels Association and the National Restaurant Association of India, threatened to suspend business with Swiggy from 15 August if the issues were not addressed.

Two days later, a broader coalition of Bengaluru hospitality bodies—including the Bangalore Hotel Association, Karnataka State Hotel Association, National Restaurant Association of India, Karnataka Bakery Sweets Association and other bar‑and‑restaurant groups—expanded the threat to both Swiggy and Zomato. They cited commissions of 25‑30 %, unauthorised “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” promotions, delayed payments and unreimbursed cancelled orders that were causing daily losses of lakhs of rupees. Led by PC Rao, the coalition reiterated the 15 August deadline, warning that a coordinated boycott could significantly impact the food‑delivery platforms’ operations in the city.
