As the campaign period for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections progressed in late July and early August, candidates signed peace covenants pledging non-violence. A region-wide gun ban remains in effect through 29 September. Security forces continue to monitor approximately 20 municipalities flagged as “red areas” with histories of election-related violence, while the Army’s Sixth Infantry Division has warned of two terrorist groups operating in Maguindanao del Sur.
